Dr. Samir Bhatt

Visiting Researcher

Sam investigates the evolutionary and ecological dynamics of infectious diseases. He works as a lecturer of geostatics at Imperial College, but retains strong links with the Malaria Atlas Project. Originally with a background in statistical genetics, he moved to the Malaria Atlas Project in 2011 to develop novel approaches to the spatial modelling of a range of infectious diseases, including the first global map of dengue. Among a suite of different tools, Sam has a particular interest in extending and applying the Integrated Nested Laplace Approximation in the context of fitting high-dimensional Bayesian latent field models for infectious disease distributions.
