Dan Weiss leads the production of global malaria burden estimates and maps as part of a collaboration with the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). The results of this work serve as key MAP deliverables for the Global Burden of Disease as well as the World Malaria Report, produced by the World Health Organization.

Dan’s other research endeavors focus on developing and improving environmental covariates associated with infectious disease prevalence and transmission. These covariates, typically modeled using remotely sensed imagery, consist of metrics that characterize vector habitat (temperature, moisture, vegetation vigor, etc.) as well as factors associated with human wellbeing (accessibility to cities, accessibility to healthcare, poverty, etc.).
